Tokyo-based studio Acquire specializes in producing games inspired by the history of the Land of the Rising Sun. Way of The Samurai 4 is another entry in the series that began in 2002. The latest game is very similar to the first entry in the series released on PlayStation 2. The game combines elements of action and adventure games.
The game's story takes place in the year 1855, two years after the Americans forced Japan to open its borders. The country is in chaos. On the one hand, the government wants to use foreign employers to develop industry and create reforms. On the other hand, the presence of the "barbarians" is strongly objected to by traditionalists who begin a rebellion. On top of all that, Britain, which intends to force Japan to sign a peace treaty, joins the conflict.
The player can take on the role of a wandering samurai who has just arrived in a fictional port city called Amihama. Other events depend on which side of the conflict the protagonist will support. Compared to previous installments in the series, the plot of Way of The Samurai 4 is bigger and more interesting.
