Players are invited to take the wheel, push the pedal to the floor, and watch out for the brick walls in GTI Racer. The game features officially licensed Volkswagen cars including, 15 models spanning all five generations of the Golf series, the T1 Transporter "Samba" (also known as the VW Bus), the original Beetle and concept cars. Players can compete in over 70 races in Career Mode, or try their hand at drift competitions, drag races, and a Baja Challenge.
Winning races unlocks vehicle upgrades like spoilers, exhaust pipes, wheels, and turbos from real-life manufacturers like Brembo, Eibach, and König. GTI Racer also features a car damage system, where every bit of contact leaves dings and dents and causes stress on the vehicle, so those fancy new rims might not stay new for long. Players can create their own courses and save replays to their hard drive in AVI format, and then share their creations with others using GTI Racer's LAN and Internet capabilities. Online racing is also available for up to four players at a time.
