Torment: Tides of Numenera is an isometric singleplayer RPG developed by inXile Entertainment as the spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment. The game was successfully Kickstarter funded in April 2013, when it reached its goal of $900,000 in less than 6 hours and set records for fastest Kickstarter project ever to reach $1 million and the highest funded video game project.
---
The game will use the Numenera game system, designed by Monte Cook, instead of the Dungeons & Dragons license that Planescape uses. Story will be heavily emphasized during combat, and text will be abundant. The story is described as philosophical, deeply personal, as well as rich with choice and consequence. Limited voice acting will be employed to give individual characters their own definitive voices, avoiding the financially and logistically prohibitive costs of full voice acting for an indie game with so much writing.
