Players take on the role of Mackey, the tough and street-savvy leader of theElite Strike Team, a special police unit located deep in the crime-ridden trenches of Los Angeles. Vic lives by his own code of ethics, neither bad nor good, and is a different kind of cop who is willing to do whatever it takes to clean up the streets.

In The Shield game, players can immerse themselves in fast-paced gameplay and interact with complex characters and unique locations that are key trademarks of the series. As Vic, the player will engage in dangerous and realistic police work (busting caves, foiling bank robberies, taking down gang members, stopping serial killers). To succeed, they must operate outside the rules by intimidating suspects with brute force, accepting bribes, and maintaining incriminating information on other cops who don't agree with Vic's "ends justify the means" approach to fighting crime. .

The game's story follows Detective Vic Mackey and the rest of the Elite Strike Team as they fight to keep the streets of Los Angeles safe at all costs. Standing in their path are legions of gang members, drug dealers, pimps, mafia thugs and corrupt politicians. However, Vic and the team are not above breaking the rules when it comes to serving their own brand of justice and keeping their personal interests intact.
