The Settlers: Rise of an Empireis another episode in a very popular strategy game series, first released in 1993 by Blue Byte Software. After a poorly received Heritage of Kings, the previous game, the German developer decided to return to the good old convention, adding a grain of innovations.
The main objective of the game is to manage a medieval city, which starts as a small village and grows into a large, well-fortified metropolis. First, you can select your hero, whose unique abilities support your settlers. A good example is the merchant, whose singing can help settlers leave their daily problems for a moment, thus increasing their morale.
Like previous games in the series, The Settlers: Rise of an Empire also requires you to collect resources essential for the development of your town. Materials must be transported by carriers, although their routes cannot be manually designated. The game decides where to create a road taking traffic into account. The lack of geologists is a simplification compared to previous games. Resources are immediately detectable and can be excavated at will.
