AlthoughRageis not a traditional representative of the FPS genre, shooting from the first person view is definitely its most important element. Rage combines typical shooter mechanics created by id Software with racing on the Earth's surface ruined like the effect of a collision with an asteroid. The post-apocalyptic atmosphere references a classic action movie Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

As was the case in the movie (starring Mel Gibson), a properly modified vehicle is both the mainstay of existence and the primary means of transportation. During the adventure, which lasts approximately ten hours, the player can obtain four vehicles in total: those that differ in performance and the number of available weapon slots.

According to the creators, in Rage for PC/Windows, the protagonist was inspired by the character of Buck Rogers (a comic book hero). The main character comes from the Ark, one of the special shelters that allowed carefully selected humans to survive the cataclysm. Forced to leave the shelter, the protagonist soon makes allies among the survivors trying to exist in this new and dangerous reality. Mutants, bandits and the military regime known as the Authority are the main enemies of the protagonist, whether she wants to or not, the fight for a better future begins.
