Hitman 2 Silent Assassinis a sequel to the well-received Hitman: Codename 47. The protagonist is once again the hitman with a barcode on the back of his head.

The story begins in a Sicilian monastery, where Agent 47 is trying to forget his previous actions, seeking penance in a peaceful life filled with prayer. Unfortunately, he is soon tracked down by the Russian mafia and forced to return to work. He quickly learns that he is being manipulated and becomes a target, hunted by a well-trained former Spetznaz.

There are 21 missions in the game, in which you must use four basic skills of an assassin: reconnaissance, camouflage, so that you can "blend into the crowd", stealthily sneaking up on your target and covering your tracks. Doing wet jobs will take you around the world, as missions take place in six main locations, including Sicily, Saint Petersburg, Melesia, Japan and Nuristan. There are over 30 weapons, starting with knives and guns, to sniper rifles and explosives.

The sequel introduces some new weapons and tools useful to a hitman, such as crossbows, poison darts, stun ammo, and even chloroform.
