The game was developed by German Radiation Blue, a studio established by people who had previously worked on games like Hitman: Blood Money, Spec Ops: The Line, SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars, and The Settlers series.

The game takes place in the near future, however, the creators' vision of this future is not optimistic. Countless wars, uncontrolled capitalism and corruption among representatives of authority have led to the depletion of most of the Earth's resources and irreversible environmental pollution.

Human extinction appears to be only a matter of time, so a group of still-functioning governments, along with influential corporations, activate the Genesis program.

This initiative involves launching a spacecraft with the mission of finding a new home for humanity. Players take on the role of a captain of one of those ships. During the campaign, one quickly discovers that the people responsible for this program did not reveal the whole truth.
