F1 2012 is a Formula 1 driver series by Codemasters and is based on the 2012 season. The game features the twelve teams and twenty-four drivers competing in the 2012 season (excluding mid-season changes), as well as the twenty circuits and the Grand Prix, including the new Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
The Grand Prix mode introduced in previous games, which allowed players to play a season as one of the real drivers, was removed in favor of some improvements to Career mode. Additionally, new game modes have been added. Champions mode challenges the player to complete various scenarios which usually involve finishing ahead of one of the previous F1 world champions, while Young Driver Test acts as a tutorial for new players with a series of videos and tests.
Also new is Season Challenge mode, a shorter, faster-paced race in which the player can frequently switch to a different car builder for challenging rivals. Qualifying sessions are now optionally shorter with the new one-shot qualifying mode, where only the first lap remains valid for placement.
