In this land tormented by different types of nightmares, the player takes on the role of a small creature named Dusty. Helped by his friend Rusty, the protagonist tries to drive away evil and restore balance to the tormented mind. Like the studio's previous game, Back to Bed, Figment offers distinctive, surreal visuals.

Figment is set in a world that represents the subconscious of a 40-year-old man. Although his mind used to be calm, he has been attacked by nightmares that symbolize everyday fears. Fears of pain, loneliness, illness or death are represented in this peculiar world by grotesque creatures that bring chaos and misery. Two friends face evil and anxiety.

Dusty, the protagonist, was once the embodiment of courage: he is equipped with a wooden sword. His friend Rusty looks like a bird and is a manifestation of optimism. Friends have to chase away nightmares and restore harmony to the world of the human subconscious.

The game world is filled with sounds and music, which illustrate the player's actions and adjust their tone to the events happening on the screen. Additionally, many objects in the environment resemble musical instruments: for example, a bridge can resemble the bellows of an accordion.
