Fallout Tactics is a team combat game set in the post-apocalyptic Fallout universe. The story of this game takes place in the timeline between the stories of Fallout and Fallout 2. Unlike these classic predecessors, however, Fallout Tactics is not a pure role-playing game. Although this version includes features such as character development, NPC interaction, and a detailed, developing plot, the emphasis in Fallout Tactics - Brotherhood of Steel is on strategic, team-based missions.
Players control a squad of six characters from a third-person isometric perspective. Battles take place in real time, but characters are limited in how much they can do in a given period. The action can also be paused for a more turn-based experience, allowing the player time to consider strategies.
Players select their squad from a pool of over 25 available soldiers and can customize appearance, skills, and other aspects. Throughout the missions, characters will have to run, sneak, crawl, climb, and even command vehicles as they make their way through dangerous areas, maintaining a tactical advantage over the enemy.
