The game is set in the late 700s. With the advent of your father's death, under clan law, you are the new leader of a small Nordic village. Your goal is to strengthen your position and make your land flow with milk and honey.

To achieve the mentioned objectives, you will have to make great efforts and be alert for your neighbors: they want nothing more than to annihilate you and your entire clan. To make things more difficult, even some members of your own clan may conspire against you to take over the town. In addition to clan management, looting plays a key role in the game. Before each attack, you must prepare by gathering resources and assembling a team. Further getaways are much more valuable, but also much more dangerous, so you need to calculate the risks.

The game is based on the familiar mechanics of Expeditions: Conqueror: the camera presents a top view and turn-based combat takes place on battlefields divided into hexagons. Making use of the cover system, traps and flank attacks are essential in Expeditions: Vikings. The game uses survival elements, such as searching for food or protecting the hero from the forces of nature. For the most part, the gameplay is non-linear: your personal and strategic decisions affect the attitude that other factions and characters adapt to you.
