Doom 3: BFG Editionfor PC does not bring any significant changes to the plot present in the original version, in single player mode, the player takes the role of a sailor, who tries to survive in a research center on Mars, where the player's task is close an interdimensional portal accidentally opened by scientists.

This version is based on classic FPS mechanics: the player explores subsequent locations full of enemies and exterminates them with a wide variety of available weapons. Taking into account the users of the console, the creators decided to modify the controls to give greater comfort to players with gamepads in their hands. The checkpoint system was rebuilt as well.

BFG Edition brings many changes in terms of audiovisuals, the id Software team remodeled the lighting system, so the player can use a tactical flashlight attached to the protagonist's clothing.
