The Dead Island series has been experiencing something of a renaissance lately. Although it may seem strange, since the zombie game genre itself is starting to become oversaturated after some critical hits like The Last of Us, Deep Silver has dedicated itself to the classic tropes of the undead gaming experience. Dead Island games aren't necessarily about being innovative or innovative - they're supposed to emphasize freedom and fun with hints of horror and survival.
The story, such as it is, follows hero Max as he tears through a post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested California in order to save his cat, who is inexplicably kidnapped by two-do-ne'er wells at the start of the game along VR by Max. The game contains a couple of short, animated cutscenes that mostly only function to show the upgrades players have unlocked at the end of a chapter or explain how the environment has changed from level to level.
