Based on Pixar's computer-animated film, Cars 2 follows the exploits of car characters Lightning McQueen and Mater as they train at a secret facility known as CHROME, short for Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage. They are joined by Finn McMissile, Holley Shiftwell, and others like them trying to become the car-equivalent of spies. Unlike the original Cars game, which offered an open-world version of Radiator Springs with missions to complete, Cars 2 emphasizes gun-based competition across 15 tracks.

Choose from over 20 vehicles, each individually rated for speed and power, before equipping them with spy weaponry such as machine guns and oil slicks. Complete training missions and combat rivals in six areas around the world, from London to Tokyo. Cars 2 for the 3DS offers local wireless support for up to four players, with each participant requiring their own version of the game. Also supported is the StreetPass feature, which allows owners to unlock additional content by contacting nearby 3DS owners.
