Call of Duty Ghoststakes place in an alternate timeline and focuses on a conflict between the United States and the Federation, a coalition of South American countries. The two factions have been at war for ten years, and entire cities have been destroyed.

As in previous Call of Duty games, the player takes control of various characters from different points of view of the conflict, but the story is largely told from the point of view of an American 'Ghost' team, a team of special forces specializing in clandestine and undercover as they track down an ancient ghost who has been captured and brainwashed by the Federation.

As with all Call of Duty: Ghosts has a large multiplayer portion. Standard CoD modes like free for all and Team deathmatch make an appearance, along with Ground War, which rotates between Domination and Team Deathmatch, and Blitz, which is similar to capture the flag, but instead of having flags, players must reach to the portals located at the enemy spawn point to score.

"COD Ghosts" is an attempt to connect gameplay elements familiar to fans of the series familiar with completely new features. The developers kept the main thread packed with spectacular action scenes.
