A first-person shooter, the seventh installment in the Call of Duty series, and the beginning of a new secondary series. The game was developed by the Treyarch studio, the team responsible for Call of Duty: World at War.
The story campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops is presented in the form of flashbacks suffered by the main protagonist, Alex Mason. After having worked for the CIA as a field operative, Mason returns to the Cold War era in his flashbacks. The game offers several single-player and multiplayer modes, including co-op and zombie mode. Call of Duty: Black Ops runs on modified versions of IW Engine 3.0 and Demonware.
The gameplay has not changed radically. However, the game has a couple of new weapons that are more suited to the Cold War. Players can use a crossbow with a laser sight and a couple of types of ammunition (including explosives).
Among other new weapons, there are powerful Dragon's Breath rounds for shotguns. As usual, there are many enemies to kill, this time they are a little smarter. It is worth adding that the developers implemented a system that checks which part of a character's body was hit (a similar system was used in World at War).
