Following the crest of the wave of popularity ofAlan Wakein 2010, along with its two extensions,The WriterandThe Signal, the creators of Remedy Entertainment decided to prepare another story about the titular hero. While the original title was inspired by Stephen King's books, this PC/Windows production is more similar to the films of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez.
The action begins two years after the events of Alan Wake, in a small town in Arizona, near the famous Route 66. To his horror, he discovers that he is inside Night Springs, a television series based on scripts he wrote when he was young writer, where reality meets fiction. To make matters worse, he has to face his dark alter ego, a serial killer named Mr. Scratch.
Although the plot of American Nightmare throws up references to the original title, e.g. It tells you what happened to the hero after the ending, it is not necessary to finish the first installment.
The mechanics follow in the footsteps of the original title and feature, for example, a characteristic combat system based on the use of a flashlight. Finishing the campaign takes a few hours. However, the developers present a new game mode - Fight Till Dawn, in which you have to avoid waves of opponents. The score you get is displayed on an online leaderboard, so you can compare yourself with other players.
